SENSATIONAL OCCURRENCE AT

LITTLE RIVER,

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

A big landslide at Puaha, four miles from Little River, occurred shortly after midnight, owing to the heavy rain. A party of - grass seeders was caught in the slip, Griffiths Pidgcvn, a married man, aged 30 years, was killed, and his brother Frederick Pidgeon, a single man, and James Howard, were injured. Howard had to be dug out, and was seriously injured. The constable at Little Biver, in telephoning for assistance to dig them out, stated that the debris extended for two miles. A party of constables has gone out. Later. Later particulars from Little Biver state that Howard's body was not re~ covered 1- from the debris. Parties are searching for it. „' ;' The slip began at- the top of the hill, which is eight or nine .hundred feet high, and strewed debris over two miles. J. Chapman's house on the hill was moved from its foundations. ; . A fatality occurred when three men were washed into a creek. Two escaped, and one of them was admitted to the hospital later. .
