ARBITRATION COURT

NOMINATION,OF ASSESSORS

THE PROBABLE CANDIDATES.

Nominations for the positions of assessors and deputy-assessors on the Arbitration Court close to-day. The candidates for the office of workers'. assessor are: Messrs. M. Ji Reardon (the sitting member), H. Hunter (Christchurch), C. H., Chapman (Wellington), C. Renn (Christchurch), T. Bloodworth (Auckland), and L. F. Evans (Dunedin), whilS for the position of deputy-assessor the names of Messrs. F. D. Cornwell (Wellington), H. Hunter, and W. E. Sill (Auckland) have been put forward.^ Mr. W. Scott, of ■ Dunedin, has again been nominated to represent ■ the employers, and Mr. B. L. Hammond, assistant secretary of tne New Zealand Employers' Federation, has been nominated as employers' deputy-assessor. Whether there are any .other candidates, or whether all of those mentioned above have received nomination will not be definitely known before Monday.

Messrs. Hunter and Sill have the support of the Alliance of Labour, and, in view of that body's attitude to the Arbitration Court, interest attaches to the question whether they will be appointed, even if they secure the majority of tlra votes cast by the unions. Power of appointment rests absolutely with the Gov-ernor-General, and it is felt in some quarters that only reprssentatives of unions concerned in maintaining the arbitration system should be placed in the positions of .assessors on the Court.
