WELLINGTON CENTRAL

MR, SIE^WRIGHT AT MITCHELL-

TOWN.

Mr. A.' B. Sievwright, Liberal-Labour jandidate for the Wellington Central seat, addressed a crowded meeting in the Mitchelltown Schoolroom last night. Mrs. Moore, secretary of the Women's Social and Political League, presided. There was a hostile (and youthful) element present,- which manifested itself at the outset with more or less allegedly humorous interjections. For the.greater portion of the time, however, tho candidate received an excellent hearing.

The candidate spoke on the lines of his previous addresses, criticising severely both the Reform and extreme Labour parties. The Liberal-Labour Party, he said, stood in the middle of the road, ■with the Reformers and Labourites in the ditches on either side. He spoke in favour of proportional representation, and went on to say that he would always oppose any attempt to abolish trade unionism. While a snpporter of arbitration, and considered that awards of the Court should be respected, he held that there should be a right of appeal from the decisions of the Court. Assessors to sit with the president should be appointed from the industries disputes concerning which came forward for hearing

After answering questions) the candidate was accorded three cheers, and there were counter-cheers for the Labour Party. "For He's c. Jolly Good T'ellow" was sung by supporters of Mr. Sievwright.
