CRICKET

SEASON'S FIRST, MATCHES

FIXTURES FOR TO-MORROW

UMPIRES AND PLAYERS. '*

The Wellington Cricket Association's championship fixtures will commence tomorrow, when 88 teams will take part in the various grades. The principal attraction will be at the Basin Reserve, where two matches will be -played, the chief feature being the' Meeting of the two suburban teams, Petone and Hutt, which finished first and second last season. It will be remembered that Petone established an early lead, Hutt's five successive wins at the end of the season just failing to bring them to the top, although they had the satisfaction of beating their neighbours and being the only team to do so. \ There is not much change in either team since last season. Petone xvill be without Borrows, but O'Donoghue is back from Sydney and will take his old place in the team. Both teams have been hard at practice for some weeks, in which respect they have an advantage over the town players. Brice is reported to be practising steadily, and to be in good- form. On the other wicket, Old Boys and Wellington should provide a good match. C. G. Wilson is taking the field again" for Wellington, who will find compensation for the loss of Burton and Middleton in Millbrook, the East Melbourne batsman, whose first appearance- in New Zealand will be 1 watched with interest, and Bernau, the Wanganui left-hander, who will supply some much-needed strength to the attack. Old Boys will /be without Lambert, but D. C. Collins has definitely intimated his intention of coming down regularly from Wairarapa for the weekend, and his reappearance ,in club cricket will be a welcome one. At Kelburn Park, Thorndon and Institute will meet, while Midland and V.M.C.A. meet at Anderson Park. .Tlie umpires • for matches are as follow:— • ... Senior.—Wellington v.
