MILLERS TO BE ASSISTED.

(DT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

OHRISTCHUROH, 12th Oct. Millers will not be penalised in connection with the reduction of £2 10s per ton in the price of flour, which is to take effect from Ist November. The Government intends to compensate them for the losses they would otherwise make on stocks of flour already acquired, which they'will be compelled to dispose of* at the new and reduced price. Mr. W. G. M'Donald, Government Wheat Controller,, made a statement to. this effect to-day.-

Mi. M'Donald said that until certain details of the scheme were settled, the announcement of the Government's proposals would be deferred. However, at this stage he could state that millers would receive an allowance oti flouT sold at the reduced prica. There would be no refund to millers 6n stocks of wheat they now held, and which were purchased by them, at the prices fixed by the Government. The adjustment to compensate them would be made on flour jas it was actually sold. '

Mr. M'Donald further explained that millers had purchased stocks of wheat this season, subject to a. loading,charge of 9d per bushel imposed by the Government. After meeting the expenses of the control scheme from this loading charge, there had been a balance in the .Government's favour, which was a safeguard in view of the export operations the Government also carried but.
