DECLARES SHOT TROOPER BY

ACCIDENT.

HOBART, This Day.

The name of the man arrested is George Carpenter, who was discovered by one of the police searching parties seven miles from the scene of the murders. The police surrounded a hut, in which Carpenter barricaded himself and showed fight. The police fired several shots, and Carpenter came out badly wounded in both arms. During the firing. Constable Dodd was wounded in the arm by a bullet from one of his companions' rifles. Both men were removed to the Hobart Hospital. '

Carpenter's condition is serious. Carpenter was formally charged with the murder of Trooper Henderson, whom he alleged he shot by accident.
