BOARD OF TRADE CHAIRMAN.

Th§ steps being taken by the Minister of Industries and Commerce to replace Mr. W. G. M'Donald, the Chairinan of the Board of Trade, who is § resigning as from Ist November, were inquired for by Mr.' R. M'Callum (Wairau) in the House of Representatives yesterday. , He. desired that the Minister should strengthen the board rather than ■vyeaken it, and that there should be appointed a -most competent man. Mr. R. Masters (Stratford): "It needs it."

Mr. M'Callum said he was not reflecting on Mr. M'Donald, who was a capable man. He did hope that the Minister was not going to abolish'the position, and that he would appoint a gentleman who would watch the trend of legislation, and protect the public. The Minister replied that he was referring the matter to the "Government for consideration.' He had noted the remarks of the member.
