The newly-elected Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association hel3 its first meeting of the year in the Film House last evening, members present being: Messrs. C. G. Wilson (chairman), D. M'Kenzie, P. B. Broad, R. Murphy, H. J. Buck, J. Reid, W. G. Hughes, P. R- Fulton, R. A. Berry, W. R. Bock (representing the Umpires' Association), and E. E.F. Hewitt (hon. secretary). The Director of Parks and Reserves notified that the Basin Reserve would be open for practice on the 10th October, and for matches on the following Saturday. It was decided that the season be officially opened on the 14th October, and that entries for the competitions close on Monday, the 2nd October, at 5 p.m. The Wellington Rugby Union advised that the question of the use of Athletic Park for the 1923-24 season had been held over for the incoming committee. It was stated that the ground was being put in first-class order this season, and should be one of the best grounds in Wellington. The appointment of a selector or selectors was held over until next meeting. The allocation of practice wickets was deferred. Messrs. S. F. Wilson and C. S. Hammond were re-elected delegates to the New Zealand Cricket Council. CHAMPIONSHIP COMMITTEES. Committees were appointed as follow: Senior Championship.—Messrs. Murphy, Fulton, and Hughes. Junior Championship.—Messrs. J. Reid, L. Lynam, C. Spearman, H. D. Morgan, N. Griffiths, E. M'Cardle, J. Hanna, and P. B. Broad. Mr. Reid was appointed chairman and Mr. Broad deputy-chairman. REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES. In connection with the representative matches, to be played this season, Mr. Reid suggested that Wellington's principal matches should be played as follow:—Against Auckland, at Wellington, 23rd. 25th, 26th December; Canterbury, at Christchurch, 19th, 20th, 22nd January,- Otago, at Dunedin, 26th, 27th, 29th January. The Chairman considered that February and March were the most suitable months for matches in Canterbury and Otago. ■ Mr. M'Kenzie drew attention to the fact that the dates suggested for the Otago match clashed with those set down for one of the Tests with Maclaren's team. It should be possible he thought, to avoid such a position. It was decided to write to Auckland asking them if they would be prepared to meet Wellington on the dates suggested. The Chairman reminded members of the fact that a letter bad been received from Southland asking that on Wellington's Southern tour this season a match be played with Southland at Invercargill. In view of the various matches to be played and the inevitable clashing of dates, hi considered that Wellington should visit Canterbury and Otago in February, and also .endeavour to arrange for th« matches to bo played, if possible, on Friday and Saturday. Regarding Southland's request it was decided to ask the Southern association what, it was prepared to offer in the way of expenses, as the mutch would not be for the Plunket Shield. The question of dates for the Canterbury arid Otiigo matches was not settled, and will '» further discussed it next week's meeting.
