Bevan, who was recently arrested for alleged financial frauds in connection with tie Equitable Insurance Company, said in an interview that he left England solely at the request of his wife, who bad information that a warrant was being issued, and implored him to spare her the disgrace of his arrest. It waa against the principles and practice of his whole life to flee from trouble. He also knew that his flight would prejudice him in the eyes of the public. He was anxious to come to grips with the grave charges against him, and was convinced that nothing ; dishonourable could b© proved. The'alleged falsification of the balance-sheets, he said, was an ordinary "window-dressing" operation.
