THE STOLEN YACHT

A REMARKABLE VOYAGE

NAVIGATION UNDER DIFFICULTIES

SKILLED SEAMAN ON BOARD,

(BKITIB MtKS ABSOCUHOU.—COPTHGEI.) (Beceived July 11, 10 a.m.)

BRISBANE, This Day.

The yacht Oneata has*"*been brought from Yepoon to Rockhampton. From what can be gathered, the vessel covered over 4300 miles. The trip was made mainly under sail. A log found on board states that when off the New Zealand coast, the crew got provisions from a passing vessel. The yacht's course, starting from the New Zealand coast, was to- the Kermadecs, then east, to Bopa Island, then south to New Caledonia, thence in a northerly direction, and so on till the Queensland coast was reached. The-, crew, for part of the time, lived on sharks, which were harpooned. They distilled salt water when the fresh water was_ exhausted. One of the arrested men is reputed to be a skilful seaman, with a record of service as second mate on big liners. During the Oneata's voyage he put in thirteen hours at the wheel on end, the greater part at night. His only aids to navigation were a bowl^ompass and an ordinary school atlas.
