MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT
NARROW ESCAPE AT SHELLY .1 BAY. A. motoring party had a remarkable escape from serious injury at Shelly Bay on Saturday afternoon. The car suddenly left the road, went over the bank, and capsized on the beach, pinning the occupants underneath in the water, fortunately only a few inches .in depth at' the time. Mr. R. Girling-Butcher and a Mr. Brown were in the vicinity, and immediately went, to the assistance of the party. They managed to free the driver, who was apparently uninjured, and then, with the assistance of a Maori, who had also arrived on the scene, they succeeded in jacking up the car sufficiently to enable the other members of the party—two women and a little girl— to be extricated. The women's faces were cut abont, and the girl had a leg slightly injurey. The Hospital ambulance was called, ajid the injured persdns were removed to the Hospital, where it was found that the injuries were only slight. The women and the girls were subsequently taken to their homes. The car, somewhat damaged as the result of the mishap, was removed from the j beach on Saturday evening.
