POPULAR SEASIDE RESORT

Few people in'outside districts realisewhat a splendid asset Gisborne has. in the Waikanae Beach, which is a long, sandy stretch within half a mile of the Post Office. An energetic -Beach, Improvement Society has been busy, and, within two years, improvements to the value of £6000 have been effected. In addition "to constructing a concrete promenade along the foreshore,' bathing; sheds and tearooms have' been constructed, and an up-to-date paddling pool has been built for the children. Last summer the beach was patronised by thousands of people, and the "call of the surf" was more pronounced than in, past years. It is, iii fact, becaiise of this increasing popularity that the society finds itself compelled to extend its existing works. In an endeavour to further advertise the beach, the society is .promoting a word-buiHdng competition throughout the Dominion, and is offering £70 in prizes to successful competitors: Further particulars of the proposal are contained in tho advertising columns of this issue.
