In order to- afford seamen*in 'the/merchant service Opportunity-, of safeguarding thoir earnings, arrangements have. .Been made botwen the Commonwealth Navigation Service and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, for the establishment of savings bank agencies at mercantile marine offices in various Australian ports. As from Ist July; these agenoies will be open in Sydney, Newoasfcle, Melbourne, Brisbane, Port Adelaide, Hobart, and Fremantlo , for the receipt of deposits only. Deposits may be made by seamen on their own account, or for their dependents. This facility for saving money is. already open to naval seamen, and has been 'largely availed of.
