GOVERNMENT IS INTERESTED.
Among those who listened to the speakers at tho unemployed meeting in Post Office Square this week was Mr. Gk Mitchell (Wellington .South). He disapproved of much which he hoard,-' and yesterday in the Honso of 'Representatives sought the Prime Minister's opinion on the matter. He said some of the statements were such as should not be made by any body of men in this coun- ' try. Ho asked the Prime Minister whether his attention had been drawn to the statements and whether the Government intended to put a stop to Mr. J. M'Combs (Lyttelton)': "Tofree speech." Mr. Mitchell: "To communist propaganda at such meetings." These people, ho added, were not really interested in the unemployed—they wero merely rising them for propaganda, purposes, Tho Prime Minister said his attention, had not been drawn to the matter, '/bill, he would take the opportunity of inquiring into what had been said. "The' Government's policy is just this," ,he added; "to don't want to interfere with freedom of; sneech . . . but we are1 not poinsr to allow seditious utter-1 anccs in this country by any man, what' ever his position. Wo happen to know there are peoplo coins around making speeches on behalf of Bolshevism or I .something." ' My. W. S. Glenn (Bangftifce'i: "Gefr j thorn nvroped ur>." ' .
