THE AUSTRALIAN TOUR.
; --The Australian Hockey Association hai accepted the invitation of the New Zealand ;body-, to. send a team to tour the Dominion this year, and the first matchwill be played early in September. - The writer's views on the' Subject of'an. Australian tour have, been previously stated. Briefly, they are these:..At the- present timb liockey in the Dominion is not in a flourishing condition, and as a sport it has1 not. got. the support of the public, not suracient support/: at least;' to: warrant an expensive tour such as; the proposed (She will undoubtedly be. -Guarantees J!ro,m the , various •', associations^ will be'called for, mid it is quite. certain that the finding of any ready .cash at" tho present time will ,be a' very, difficult matter':for the locut ■ association, whose finances are in a very unsatisfactory condition at present. • Further ■ loans will be required to malco up the: guarantee," and if,tho games allotted to Wellington .are not well supported by the public perhaps a wet day may eventuate—the Wellington association will be more deeply, in the mire than ever. The- Wellington : association, is not in favour of the. tour, but will probably have>to support it. ■ Although the tour, may not prove a, financial success, it will do & lot of good, as far as the . game of hockey is concerned, and will'result in -the selection of a New Zealand team for the first time for many years. It is just possible that \the Australian players will be in a position to finance their own t9, u.V: - ?ut that, is a very remote pot. sibihty, and most Wellington hockey people agree with the writer that a tour under present conditions is very unwise.
