WILLS AND DEMPSEY

BLOCKING A CHALLENGE.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.}

(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) NEW YORK, 15th June.

Commenting on Wills's oifer to box him, Dempsey said: "I will not be coerced by the New York State Commission. lam willing to/box Wills or anyone else, provided, thaft a reasonable purse is offered, and the match is handledl by a recognised promoter." Tex Rickard said : "Dempeey wants half a million dollars for a match with Wills, which is prohibitive, since it leaves no profit for the promoter."

[The State Boxing Commission accepted Harry Wills's forfeit for a challenge to Dempsey. It was stated in a ca/ble message yesterday that the Commission may now call on Dempeey to accept Wills's challenge or forfeit his New York license. It would he easy for Dompsey to side-step the match by demanding an exorbitant price. The opinion is growing that Dempsey is net d-esirous of, meeting Wills, who is* his physical match, preferring' to choose easy marks like Breoinan and Oiirpentier, and to -retain his title, and make money before risking his crown with tho only opponent who would have a chance.]
