CARTERTON, This Day. Mr. A. D. M'Leod, M.P., delivered a pre-sessional address at Carterton ok Friday before a representative gathering of electors. The address dealt with taxation, retrenchment, education, finance, soldier settlement, and loyalty,.,and' at the conclusion the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks .'•,■' •

: The Wairarapa South County Council has decided to prosecute the owner of a tractioiu engine, used for timber haulage, under the heavy traffic bylaws. ■ ' : The Wairarapa South County Council's contribution this year to the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Boaid is £1676 155,".-as against £1978 5s Bd, a reduction of £301 10s Bd.

The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Egg Circle was held at Masterton on Saturday afternoon, Mr. H. H. Armstrong presiding. The annual report "showed that 'during the year 60,789 dozen eggs had been disposed of to' the value of £6205 9s 7d, being an increaso on the previous, year. Messrs. Bannister, Heyhoe, G. L. Hayne (Masterton), W. Tucker, and H. H. Armstrong (Carterton), were elected ■an executive;for. the ensuing'year. Mr. H. M. Boddington was re-elected secretary and treasurer, and Mr. R. 0. Jarrett auditor. During the year twenty-one new members joined the circle. A meeting of employees of the Waingawa Freezing Works on Saturday decided to start Work this morning, "it is authoritatively stated: that about. 50 per cent, of the men have broken away from th.o union , arid are: returning to work .as 'free labourers. It is. reported that the Farmers' Union had Iraaae arrangements to man the'works in all departments, but the men had signified their intention of returning before this was known.

Mr. W. J. Collins, of Pahiatua., when [proceeding to Masterton in his car on Saturday afternoon, ran into a wire stretched across the road near the Mauriceville Railway Station. Mr. Collins was thrown heavily against the windscreen and badly cut about the face. Ho was brought to a private hospital in Masterton'for treatment.

The Masterton Gun Club held its opening, shoot on Saturday afternoon, with ai: 18-bird match. Messrs.-H. Allen, 14 yards, and F. c Cooper, 13 yards, with a total of 10, tied for first prize. _ r Mr. H. W. Kersley, chairman of the Y.M.C.A. National Committee, and the National; Secrotary (Mr. A. Varney) arrived from Wellington this morning to attonrt the'iannual meeting of tlie Masterton Y.M.C.A.
