WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED
POSITION OF RETURNED ' ; SOLDIERS.
Men who! are out of work are still approaching the Mayor for assistance. Just at the moment there are no municipal relief works in progress, although some labour from the ranks, of the unemployed has been recruited for the work .of levelling, the site of the new powerhouse at Shag Point, Evans Bay. The unemployment question has. not been lost sight of by the municipal ■ authorities, however, and it is expected that they will be in a position shortly to make a move towards alleviating the present position. • ■ ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '
So far, as.returned soldiers are concerned a sum of about £800 will probably be available from the Poppy Day. appeal for the relief of unemployed returned men in and around Wellington. On Wednesday members of the executive of the local R.S.A. will wait on the Mayor to, discuss ways and means of allocating, this money in the interests of ex-soldiers in need of work.
