MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Four first-offending inebriates came bofore Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's'! Court. \ James Harold O'Brien, who had pleaded guilty to the theft of five bicycles, valued at £34 10s, and two cases of benzine, valued at £2, ..the property of the New ZeaJand Governtnent, came up for sentence. The man had been,remanded for medical observation, bub the report of the prison doctor was to. the effect that he was Bound physically, and was quite able to distinguish between wrong and right. O'Brien was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the Magistrate remarking that his daSe could be reviewed by the Prisons Board. A Chinaman named Wong Ack admitted that ho had been unlawfully in possession of, a revolver.. Senior-Detective Boddam said that there was no excuse for ■the defendant, ' who Was Well-educated, and. knew the provisions of the Act. More thaft that, said Mr.'Bbddam, Ack was not a particularly desirable member of the community. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £5, and ordered that the revolver Should bis forfeited. Charlio * Hong,, a grocer in Tinakofiroad, was fined £1 for using a faulty weighing machine, and a further £1 for failing to have his machine stamped as required by the Act. Mrs. M. Huntington, who kept her shop in Thorndon-quay open on Saturday, lllh March, was fined £6 and costs. Singe Kee, a Chinalnari, was fined 40s and costs for selling cigarettes after hours. | Before Mir. Worth, J.P., .%f the Mount Cook Polled Court this morning, James AVallace wfts fined £1, in default three ' days' imprisonment, . for drunkenness, this being his third offence within the period.
