BOYS' INSTITUTE

The monthly meeting of the Management Committee of the Boys' Institute and S. A. Rhodes Home for Boys was held last evening-. Present: Mr. G. A. Troup (in the chair), Mesdames W.^ S. Moorhouse and J. M'Kerrow, Di. J. S. M'Laurin, Messrs. C. S. Moore, J. M. Morico, B.Sc., H. Leah, W. A. Parton, G. E. Brown, P. W. Banks, D. S. E. Blake, and the director (Mr. J. W. Butler). The director's Teport stated that the attendance has been large during the month. In order to assist schoolboys and others who were compelled to take their lunch to scnbol or work, a hot cup of tea or cocoa was provided in the Institute Social Hall at the coat of Id, and it was greatly appreciated •by the boys and their parents. This was a real help to boys whose parents were at work and who veere not able to pjovide a hot midday meal. The home for boys was full, and applications ware being received from all parts of the Dominion. The attendance at the tepid baths during tho month was a record, and 36 children had secured certificates for proficiency in swimming. It was resolved to hold a swimming carnival in aid of the Russian Famine l&elief Fund. Arrangements for same were left in the hands of the Bath Committee.It was decided to set up a special educational and entertadnmjent committee. An offer by Mr. Leu M'Kenzia to supply medicine free of charge to poorer boys who were recommended by the director was accepted with thanks, and Mr. .M'&ehzie was elected honorary chomist to the home.
