N An attendance of two dozen players afc the clubroonion Saturday-evening is. a clear indication that the period of "summer slackness" Is over, and that members are busy getting into form somewhat earlier than usual. They have a heavy programme ahead of them in the coming season, which promises to be of more than ordinary interest. In connection with "the proposed tourney to decide the club championship of New Zealand, the Nelson Club suggests that a team from any of the smaller clubs should consist o£ only eight players, instead of twelve, as suggested by the Canterbury Chess Club in initiating this contest. This appears to be the only paint requiring settlement, the other proposals of t.he Canterbury Chess Club having been unanimously agreed to. At a. joint meeting of Masterton, Greytown, and Featherston players, held last week, it was'arranged to hold a tourney at an early date to decide the Wairarapa championship (at present held by Mr. J. A. Council, of Carteiton). The tourney is to be got off in two sections, the North and South winners to play off for the title. Mr. F. J. Brooker, the Ngaio president, is organising a team to visit Pal^ mention North during the Easter holidays.
