A GENEROUS DONATION
WINDFALL FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB.'
The Wellington Returned Soldiers' Club, which recently made a public appeal for funds to enable'it to renovate and furnish the new club rooms, has received -from the Wellington Provincial Council of Licensed "Victuallers a donation of £250. The gift was announced last night by the president of the association (Mr- W. Perry) at a meeting of ladies who so faithfully carried Cut their, duties on Diggers' Appeal Day (last Fri-' day). Mr. Perry thanked the ladies for the time and energy they had given. Referring to the contribution from the licensed victuallers, he said that since the return of the soldiers from the war the licensed victuallers had always been ready to extend a helping hand to tho Returned Soldiers' Association, and from tho letter just received it. was apparent that their sympathy would continue for a long time. On. behalf of tho R.S.A., he thanked the donors for their spontaneous assistance.
The appeal has not yet concluded/ and many valuable gifts have been donated by various business men in the city. These are now on view in a shop window in Willis-street, and during the next, fev days will lie disposed of by a staff of ladies. Another interesting event in connection with the appeal is the concert to be held in the Town Hall on Saturday next. A splendid programme, including items from the Commercial Travellers' Choir, has been arranged by Mr. R. Lyon, of the Savage Club.
