THE MARKET.
Referring to operations of trusts and combines on the meat market, the Prime Minister last night quoted a cablegram from the High Commissioner, stating that the London Daily Express published. a statement that, owing to the glut ■of mutton in New Zealand, the storage accommodation was full arid carcases were offering at 7s a dozen. Owing to the shortage of shipping carcases, would be boiled down. The Prime Minister '.said that he believed that this was an attempt on the part of someone to "bear1' the market by creating the impression that there was a huge accumulation of meat in New Zealand, and that stores holding seven million carcases were fu}l. When tjie^prices fell the person who inspired y the report would comii in and buy. \ ' Mr! Lysnar.:; "The usual propaganda." The Prime Minister; '.'That kind of. thing is not unknown to the meat frade, and after my experience of the past month I am not sure that it is unknown to New Zealand." He added that he had taken steps immediately to contradict the statement.
