A BANNED COMMITTEE.
"Will the Minister of Health countermand the high-handed action of the head of the Department in ' ordering the disbandment of the Welfare Committee at the Pukeora Sanatorium ?" asked Mr. J. M'Combs (Lyttelton) in the House of Representatives yesterday. He explained that the committee had done good work for the T.B. Service patients by looking after their pension rights and by helping the families of married men, thus relieving some of ■ the patients of mental worry and anxiety. The committee had also been of great assistance in having grievances considered and adjusted. On 27th January, however, the Department had written to the committee as follows: —"I am writing you with reference to the activities of your committee and the influence it is exerting in a manner considered to be directly detrimental to. the welfare of everyone at the Pukeora Sanatorium.
The conditions which led to ita establishment Have ceased to exist, and the Health Department cannot recognise your committee, and requests that it be disbanded," The Hon. C. J. Parr, in reply to the question, said tjiat the Director-General was investigating the matter, and would report shortly.;
