SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP

EXCITING CONTEST EXPECTED.

(«T TEI.EGRANI.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

WANGANUI, 23rd December. Quite a large number of enthusiasts visited the championship sculling.course to-day and watched Arnst and Hadfield at' work. Both are now fairly wound up, and, judging by the manner in which each got through the water today, they will provide a most exciting contest on sth January. Avnst does not employ a pacemaker, depending on his o\vn judgment. He has got. down to 13st 71b, and declares that he is just as he wants to be. Hadfield is a stone lighter than Arnst, which is the weight -at which he has rowed all his races. There was a strong head wind iorday, but both men put up fast times and neither appeared to be at all distressed.
