TREATY DEBATE

ONSLAUGHT OF CRITICS

MORE TALK OF BLUFF

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTKIGUT.)

(AUSTRALIAN - NBW ZEALAND CAII.B ASSOCIATION.)

(Received December 21, 1.30 p.m.)

LONDON, 20th December.

During the Dail Eireann debate. Mrs. O'Callaghan, widow of the ex-Lord Mayor of Limerick, declared that the delegates who had been bluffed by means of the threat of war were trying to bluff the Dail Eireann into ratification.

Mr. Hogan approved the Treaty, on the grounds that it legally sanctioned the sovereignty of Ireland. It gave them as much as France had, and more than Germany.

Mr. O'Kelly, the Republican envoy to Paris, declared that within a year the people would burst up the Treaty and turn their backs upon those who were trying to foist it on them. Ireland would not stand by Griffith, Colling, Mulcahy, and M'Keown as King's Ministers and Generals)

Before the' afternoon session the Dail Eireann sat in private to hear a military statement by the Minister of Defence.
