OUTBREAK AT MAORI PA" NEAR s, — OHAU.

(IT TIIIORAPH.—PIttBS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., 7th October. Eleven Maoris at a pa four miles from Ohau (56 miles from Wellington, and three miles from Levin) are sufferr ing from a severe form of influenza. They have been completely isolated by the Health Department, and plaoed in charge of an experienced nurse.

A serious outbreak of pneumonic influenza is reported ivom the Native pa at Muhanoa West, near Ohau. A fatal case is reported to have occurred at the middle of last month, the victim (being- a schoolgirl.' The disease has developed, since then at 'different points, and there have been two more deaths of young children, and the outbreak was not notified to the Health authorities until this week, when the district medical officer found that fourteen cases had (Occurred amongst adults and children. The authorities took prompt measures, and a marquee for a temporary hospital was erected yesterday. All the. case? are being collected to-day. NurseTjewis, the Government Native nurse at Otaki has been put in charge of the hospital, and the pa has been isolated. [Inquiry was made at the District | Health Office this morning in reference to this telegram. It was stated that the settlement at which the outbreak occurred is about four, miles from Ohm, which k three miles from L.eyin, The pa, has been isolated and all precautions taken. Eleven, patient*, mostly children, are in the temporary hospital.]
