MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Polic'o cases at tho Magistrate's Court to-day were heard by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. Two first-offending inebriates were dealt with in the usual lenient manner. Martin Samuelsori and Richard Sheehan, who failed, to appear, were each ordered to forfeit £1, the amount of their bail. May Faithful was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on a charge of loitering in Taranakistreot tor the purpose of prostitution. On a charge of wilful exposure, John Lennox was fined £1, in default three days' imprisonment.•■• ■
A charge of. being on licensed promise* after hours was preferred against H. Leigh at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Tho facts wero that the defendant was a great friend of a boarder at the liotcl in question, and had gone in with him after a walk on Sunday, tho 14th August. Some liquor was taken, and ■whilo there the defendant had been seen by Sergeant O'Neill. For the defence, Mr. W. E. Leicester contended that tho defendant had a right to bo on the.premises under the circumstances. In view of the fact that-the liquor, was consumed as soon as thoy went inside tho hotel, the. Magistrate was. of. iho .opinion .that, lira* defendant went there to procuro liquor, and lie imposed* fins of, £1.
