The extent of the increase in the cost of living W stated by Captain W. de R. Barclay at the superannuated public servants' meeting this week to be 133 per cent. "The. reason I say 133 per cent.," lie added, "is that a very careful analysis has just been published in London, where the whole question of increase in the cost of living has been thoroughly considered by an independent tribunal. That was the position on' the Ist June last. The advance here is assessed at 60 per cent., and that is just half of what it really is."
