PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY

The executive controlling the 1921 Public Service Rugby tournament met last evening, Mr. J. B. Gauntlett presiding. Others present were Messrs. H. Pafon, J. Mulcahy, L. Tracey, W. E. Barker, and J. K. Jameson,. secretary. Although no definite date had been | arranged for the commencement of the tourney, it was hoped that the Saturday grade matches would be completed in time to allow of a start being made early next month. The following applications for the combining of two or more smaller Departments, thus enabling them to place one good team in the field, were granted;— State Advances to combine with Land and Income Tax, State Fire with the Public Service Superannuation Office, Internal Affairs with Native Department, Education with Agriculture, and Mince with Labour and National Provident Departments. ' 1 It was decided to amend the rules governing tie Ronaldson pup competition as follows :--"That in the event of a drawn game, extra spells be played as decided upon by the opposing captains, and during such spells each forcedown to count as one point." This amendment does away with- the spinning of a coin being the deciding factor in a drawn game. The draw for tie first round of the tourney is as follows:—Education v. State Fire, State Advances v. Audit, Telegraph v. Insurance, Printing Office v. G.P.O. (H.Q-), Trust v. Chief Post Office, Forestry v. Internal Affairs, Raili way v. Mines. Pensions, a bye.
