REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES ARRANGED

NOMINATION OF REFEREES.

The Management Committee of the Wellington Bugby Union met last evening, Mr. J. Prendeville being in the chair. Others present were:—Messrs. W. J. Hardham, H. C. Buck, F. A. Laws, E. H. Ward, A. J. Griffiths, G. I" 1. Jackson, H. M'Leod, J. N. Millard, and F. J. M'Comisky (secretary). Tho Wellington Bugby Referees' Association drew attention to the fact that in the fixture St. Patrick's v. V.M.C.A. (sixth class), both teams were notified that the game was not being played, and the referee was not advised. It was decided to inquire into the matter, the match having been set down to be played. The referee's action in awarding the Hutt-Selwyn fixture to Selwyn owing to Hutt's failure to put in an appearance was endorsed. The Hutt Club is to be asked for an explanation. Permission, subject to the usual conditions, was granted to the Pet.one Railway Workshops to send a team to Auckland to play the Newmarket shops on the 27th August. A protest was made by the Poneke Club against the action of the referee of the Poneke-Technical College fifth class match last Saturday in stopping the game before time. The matter was referred to the Referees' Association.

A report was made that as there were no goal posts on the ground for .the Marist-Athletic fixture last Saturday, the game waii called off by the referee. Among the accounts passed for payment was one regarding the contract for improvements at Athletic Park.

Sixteen names of- referees available to control the Canterbury-Wellington match were forwarded by the Wellington Rugby Referees' Association. As this action was contrary to the suggestion agreed to by the Referees' Association that four, names only be submitted, it was decided to inform the association that if it did not carry out the agreement the union would undertake to do it.

It was stated by the chairman that dates were available outside those for representative fixtures for a senior cup final (if necessary), and the special Challenge Cup match.
