X: Hunt, S.M., presided at today's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Two first-offending inebriates were dealt with in the usual manner. Maud Grant, who had three previous convictions against her, and had : to answer' charges of breaking the terms of her prohibition order and being an incorrigible rogue, in that she consorted with reputed thieves and prostitutes, was sentenced to two years' reformative treatment. ' . , Joseph Harvey Cornish, who was charged with being a rogue,and vagabond, in that on or about 25th May, at Blenheim, he did impose upon Patrick Meehan by verbal and fraudulent misrepresentations, that, he had been sent,to obtain the sum of £3, was remanded to appear at Blenheim to-morrow. ' A remand until 29th July was granted in the case of Albert E. Kearns, who was charged that at Upper Hutt he received from Mrs. M. A. M'Kay the sum of £3 15s and did fail to account for the same to Sidney H. Rossiter, converting the same to his own use, and thereby committing theft. Bail was allowed in the sum of £50. ■■ C. O'Shea was fined 10s for a breach of his prohibtion order, and T. Balmer was fined 10s on each of two charges of a like nature. ■ ' . ' '■. H. Johnston, grocer, of Karori,. was fined £1 and costs for' failing to close his shop at the proper hour, and F. H. Mcgaun, Tory-street, was fined 10s for a similar offence. . . Gilbert P. Turnbull, charged with the < theft of two furs valued at £15, the property of some person unknown, was remanded until 29th July. ( It was stated in the report of the Court proceedings on Wednesday that John E. Radcliffe was fined for plying for hire without being a licensed driver.; As. a matter of fact, Radcliffo was ordered to pay the costs. Mr. G. E. Fownes, J.P., presided over a-sitting of the Mount Cook Police Court to-day. One first-offending inebriate, who failed to appear, was ordered to forfeit his bail, 10s, and another first offender was fined^s, in default twentyfour hours' imprisonment.
