MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Business at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., was over in ten minutes this morning. Six of seven fust-offending "drunks" forfeited their bail of 10s, and ones who appeared, was fined ss. William Simpson, charged with theft of a 71b tin, valued at 5s 3d, the property of the Union Steam Ship Company, was remanded until Monday, bail of £10 being allowed. Walter D. Fisher was also remanded until Monday, the charge in this case being the theft of a bicycle, valued at £4. Bail of £20 was allowed. He was represented by Mr. A. B. Sievwright.

Stanley I. Collins, a youth of 18 years of age, charged with breaking the terms of his probation order, was given a bad reputation. It was explained that he was placed on probation in May for theft of two suit cases, the property of a drunken man, with whom he became acquainted. Collins had not made restitution as required by the terms of his order, and had defrauded people from whom he had sought employment. The Magistrate sentenced him this morning on the original charge, to 12 months' reformative treatment.
