A MOCK ELECTION

A mock Parliamentary election took place at a combined meeting of the Brooklyn and Taranaki-street Methodist Debating Societies held in the Taranaki- ' street Schoolroom '" last evening. Mr. C. Freeman occupied the chair. Miss Helyer (Independent), Messrs. Bate, '■ Bennett (Reform), Balchin (Independent Labour), M'Dowell (Independent Liberal), and Seddon (Liberal) addressed the meeting, some aggressive speeches being delivered. A ballot was taken for the election of three candiates, the following three being elected: —Miss Helyer, Messrs. Bate and Seddon. The Chairman remarked that the speeches were good, but on the whole dealt too much with generalities and not enough with facts.
