A SERIOUS CHARGE

A charge of indecently assaulting a girl 10 years of age was ■preferred against a man named Thomas William Steel, before Captain W. Hennah and Mr. H. Seaton, J.P.s, at the Magistrate's Court to-day. The offence was alleged to have been committed on the 29th June. During the hearing of evidence the Court was cleared. .Chief Detective Ward prosecuted, and MrJ. A. B. Sievwright appeared for the^ accused. The allegation was that when the girl was collecting money for a Sunday school fund she called at the accused's shor>, and' while there she was assaulted. Accused pleaded .not guilty and was committed to the Supremo Court for trial. Bail "was allowed in one surety of £100 or two £50.
