IRISH PEACE MOVEMENT

TRUCE PROPOSALS POSSIBLE

DE VALERA'S AGENTS IN LONDON,

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIGHTO

{AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOC ATION.) LONDON, 11th. May.

Simi Fein is prepared to abandon the claimi for an independent republic if granted fiscal autonomy. A strong peace movement is making progress.

De Va!era's agents are visiting London to explore the possibilities of suggesting a truee1 on the basis that the troops and Black and Tans are confined to barracks during the elections.

The Government, in reply, asks what assurances will be forthcoming that the truce will not be used for reorganising the Sinn Fein forces.

A fairly hopeful opinion prevails in Government circles. It is not suggested that a truce would affect the elections, iii which Sinn Feiners are certain-to-he returned unopposed, in nearly all electorates, but it is believed that once peace ■is re-established the people will insist on its retention.
