THE ALTERED BANK RATE.
LONDON, 28th April. There was much excitement in the vicinity of the Bank of England when the reduction in the bank rate was announced. The adoption of a middle course policy was not cxt pected, and is believed to be due to the coal trouble. This is the first time the rate has been . reduced by half per cent, when over 5. Stockbrokers are speculating on (ha prospects of a revival' of. markets by tha lifting of what was regarded as one of tha most restrictive influences on trade generally.
