ALLEGED FRAUD
THREE UNION CO. EMPLOYEES
CHARGED,
Great public interest was shown, in the proceedings at the Magistrate's Court today, when three employees of the Union Co.—Andrew Gibson Taylor (time-keeper), Alexander Joseph Chisholm (time»keeper),, and George Churchill (assistant time-keeper) —all of whom are well-known on the waterfront, were ohargod with defrauding the oompany. The charge against Taylor (for whom Mr. W. E. Leicester appeared) was that between Ist September, 1920, and 2nd March, '1921, ho did conspire with certain (persons unknown to defraud the Union Company of the sum of £154-ylßs Id. Chisnolm and' Churchill (defended by Mr. Ai. B. Sievwright) were similarly charged, the amount of the alleged) fraud in their case being: £165 6s lOd. In all three charges Chief Detective Ward applied for a remand until Wednesday next. This was granted. Bail was allowed in the sum of £200 in the case of Taylor and £100 each in the ease ofi Ohisholm atad Churchill. Ghief Detective iWard intimated that possibly he would not be ready to proceed on Wednesday.
