(II riMMAM.~MUM ASIMIATICH.)

FEILDINa, 29th April. A farmers' meeting hero to-day, called by the Fanners' Union, passed a motion asking the Government to arrange for a proper inquiry into the waterfront question, as trivial disputes are constantly holding up industries. Speakers stated that it now cost £5600 more to turn a ship round in New Zealand than in prewar times.

The meeting also decided to set up a Commission to discuss the possibility of bartering wool with, Germany in exchange for manures.

There was a lengthy discussion on shearers' rates, and a motion was carried in favour of offering. £1 per 100 for shearers, with other shed wage* on the same scale.

The meeting strongly favoured farmers retaining permanent farm labourers, es-" pecially married men and soldiers, as long as possible. A motion was also carried in favour of the abolition of preference to unionists.
