THE KNOX RESOLUTION
DEMOCEATS BITTER ATTACKS.
' WASHINGTON, 28th April. During the debate on the resolution moved by Senator Knox, Democratic Senators bitterly attacked the measure, Senator Underwood* declaring: "It abondons the nations which are the United' States' allies, and means the refusal of American aid in the collection! of reparations.'•'■ He added : "The United State* will be compelled to to to Germany, hat in haiJd, as a supplicant for the negotiation of the Treaty. Senator Nelson declared that, the resolution specifically deserted France in the hour of need.
[Senator Knox's resolution provides for ending the state of war with Germany. It also provides that, although the United States hasjnot ratified the Treaty of Versailles, it reserves all rights andi powers, and claims the privileges, indemnities, reparations, and advantages to which it is entitled, including the right to enforce the same under the armistice terms or any extensions or modifications 1 thereof, which the United States is entitled to as one of the. principal Allied associated Powers. The resolution further N provides that the United States shall retain all German property seized, but without disposing of it until each country ratifies a, treaty providing for a satisfactory settlement of all United States claims against Germany arising out of the war.]
