THE TORONTO SCHEME

(IT TI'.iGRAPtf.—PRESS A8SOCIAIIOH.)

MASTERTON, 29th April. An interesting scheme was put forward at the Wairarapa Hospital Board meeting to-day by Dr. Dawson, medical sueprintendent of Pahiatua Hospital, with reference to the introduction of the Toronto system in public hospitals. Under the system hospitals are fitted, in addition to the ordinary wards, with small private wards for patients prepared to pay for the privilege, and extra wards are also provided for the use of indigent maternity cases. The Health Department approves of the scheme, if successful, being extended to other parts of the Dominion. The scheme has been in successful operation in Canada for many years past. - The proposal was postponed at the suggestion of the Pahiatua delegates until the Hospital Commission's report is brought down.
