THEFT OF A GAS STOVE
The removal of '« gas-stove from, a house in College-street, and the result of subsequent inquiries, led to the appearance.before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day of a man pamed William Joseph Wright on a charge of theft of .a gas-stove valued at £4, the property of Ernest Redifct. The circumstances of tho ca6e were that the accused had taken tho stove without authority, but in defence it waa stated that the >stove was removed on the instruction of Mr. W. Hawthorn, who, it was alleged, had stated that the house .was condemned. Several were called, but in the evidence there was a good deal of conflict. That for the defenoe amounted to an endeavour to cast the blame on someone else, and the Magistrate did not approve of this. He imposed i fine of £10, and ordered Wright to pay expenses amountin.? to £4, in default one month's imprisonment. Chief Detective Ward prosecuted, and Mr. Leicester appeared on behalf of the accused.
