The-Prime Minister and the Minister of Agriculture left fox the Tai-anaki district to-day. Mi-. Massey will speak at Waverley this afternoon, and at" Hawera to-night, in support of the candidature of Mr. Dixon for the Patea seat, and will probably return to Wellington tomorrow night.
Mr. G. Mitchell, M.P., secretary of the Central Progress League, is visiting the Mangahao hydro-electric -works today, and intends to return to-morrow.
During the absence of Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp, Consular Agent for Italy, Mr. P. B. Cooke, of the firm of Chapman, Skerrett, Tripp, and Blair, will act as Consular Agent for Italy in Wellington.
The Bey. D. D. Boger, who'has served in various churches in Christchurch for 36 years, and has for twelve years been in charge of the Papanuit Presbyiexian Church,'is retiring from active work in the ministry.
Mr. W. H. MiUward has joined the local board of directors of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.
During the absence of the Coal Controller (Mr. F. J. Gunn) in Australia, Mr. Boy S. Johnston, secretary of the Wellington committee, will be in charge of the Department.
The Rev. E. S. Harknese, for the past ton years connected with the Free Church of Tonga, arrived in Auckland recently, having accepted charge of the Egmont circuit of the New Zealand Methodist Church.
Regretful mention was made at last night's meeting of the Wellington Football Association of tho death of Mr. V. Astell, who had for long been one of the association's most prominent and valued referees. A, motion of sympathy and condolence was passed to his relatives.
The Rev. A. T. B. Page, of St. Mark's Church, has returned to Wellington from a, holiday in Auckland. The. Eev. T. E. Tempest,, who was associated with St. Mark's during Mr. Page's absence, left yesterday to return to his charge in Melanesia.
Mr. P. R. Presants, after occupying for,several years the position of factory manager and artist and designer for Messre. C. M. Banks, Ltd., has accepted an engagement with Messrs. Turnbull, Hickson, and Gooder. His former colleagues, at- a farewell meeting a few days ago, presented him with an appropriate souvenir of his association with them.
Mr. Leslie D. Coombs, A.R.1.8.A., architect, of Dunedin, has, on the recommendation of the Christchureh branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, been appointed assessor of the forthcoming competition for designs for the Bridge of Remembrance war memorial, to be erected over the Avon at Cashelstreet.
A presentation was made yesterday to Mr. T. S. Powell, who recently retired from the position of clerk of works for the Wellington Harbour Board after over 27 years' service. Mr. H. E. Nicholla, secretary "of the board, made the presentation, which consisted of a silver tea set, on behalf of the executive officers and the heads of the various departments.
