NORTH v. THORNDON.

Thprndon and North met on the Wellington College Ground, and although t,he former won the toss, North were sent in to bat. Runs came quickly, until at 42 Bray was clean bowled by Plant. Fulton, Champueas, Ashfoi'd, and Burton were not veiy successful, but Hiddleston compiled a useful 41. Middle.ton and Patterson retrieved^ North's position, the former's - score including two 6'e. He was brilliantly caught in the outfield by Warne. off Phillips. Patrick added a' useful 26, and Patterson carried his bat for 57, the innings closing for 221 runs. Thorndon went in to bat on a rather bad wicket after lunch. Phillips and Doneghuo bntli seemed set, when the former played over one from Fulton. Tlie next three batsmen failed to. help the score much.; Doneghue was. playing the . bowling nicely, and, with King, stopped the rot. , After compiling 53, he was well caught.off-a hard shot to square- leg.. The remaining batsmen failed, except that Martin' and Plant added 30 for. the last wicket. The innings realised 120 runs, necessitating Thorndon following on. The second "effort was better, and prevented a three-

point win. Prince and Ch'riEtoph'iirson did well towards increasing the score. Details :— NORTH V. THOBNDON. North. —First Innings.
