NATIONS' FINANCE

WOEK OF BRUSSELS CONFERENCE NO NEW REMEDY FOUND. (BNITEB PRESS ASSSCtATION.—CBPTMBHT.) (AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 12th October/ Mr. J. R. Collins, Secretary of the Commonwealth Treasury, has returned from the meeting of the International Conference held at Brussels. In. an interview he stated: "The conference found no new remedy for the financial trouble. Few of its recommendations are original. The scheme propounded by the conference for the creation of ■credits in favour of impecunious countries was"'not worked out in detail, but the feeling of some delegates, including myself, was that bonds to be given by the Government of the importing country should be supported by an international guarantee. The conference considered that the relative advantages of the various means for increasing revenue, whether by direct or indirect taxation or a capital levy, would depend upon the special economic conditions in each country. It was recommended that each country should decide for itself. The conference being of a financial character, it did not consider the question of Customs tariff."
