TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

NOXIOUS FILMS. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. ; Formal notification was received from the Governor-General of the resignation of the Hon. H. F. Wigram, M.L.C. The Hon. G. M. Thomson, of Dunedin, gave notice of his intention to ask the Leader of the Council whether the Government will make more drastic and stringent the censorship of cinematograph pictures, with the object of eliminating the noxious elements which tend to destroy the moral sense of many voting people. The Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Loan Bill and the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, received from the House of Representatives, were read a first tme. The former was then, put through all stages and passed. The Civil List Bill (No. 2) which increases the salaries of members, was put through its final stages and passed.
