A BUSY PORT
SOME INTERESTING .FIGURES.
With fourteen overseas vessels engaged in loading or discharging operations'i the Wellington waterfront bears a particularly animated appearance at present, and during the past few days there has been a brisk demand forl all available labour. The following oversea steamers are at present in port: Otira (7996 tons), Matatua (6488 tons), Moana (3915 tons), Leitrim (9700 tons), Liberty (6869 tons), Mamari (8114 tons), Kiso Mara (4065 tons), Karame* (5625 tons), Canadian Exporter (5498 tone), Marama (4437 tons), Waimana (7852 tons), Mahana (11,796 tons), Athenic (12,234 tons), and Northumberland (12,160 tons). Of these, soven ere units of the Shaw,; SaviU, and Alhion fleet. In. addition, there are the usual number of coastal boats' in ports. The following figures show the total tonnages for this week: Monday, 140,776 tons; Tuesday, 1#4,749 tons; to-day, 136,005 tons. On Saturday last the total tonnage of vessels in port was 140,342 tons.
