XThe Minister' 'for Marine was asked by Mr. P: Praser (Wellington Central) yesterday, in the House of Representatives, \yhat motive had actuated the uep?rt- ;- lirent in deleting. from the regulations governingl the- carriage of'benzine and' petroleum on steamers the following clause:—"A vessel carrying passengers shall not carry petroleum as deck cargo." Mr. Fraser said he understood that a conference had been held with the shipowners at which seamen were represented, and that it had been practically agreed that this precaution should be inserted in the regulations. The Hon. Sir W. H. Herfies replied that as-'the matter 'was" an important one, and the Hon. Sir Frances Bell, and not;he, had/been concerned in the-con-ference, he would be pleased if the question were placed on the Order Paper to enable a considered reply to be given. •
