A previous message stated that a. Sinn Feiner committed the outrage as a protest against M'Swiney's imprisonment.
It is reported from Paris that two of France's "grand old men" are marrying. Anatole France, the famous author, who ia 76 years of age, is marrying Emma Le Prevotte, and Cammill Fdammarion, the well-known astronomer, who is 78, is marrying G-abrielle sßenaudot, who for many years collaborated with him in astronomical investigations.
A message from London states that the Irish Guards were not implicated in the recent AJdershot affair, which was merely the outcome of soldiers' convivialities.
The King has sent a message wishing good luck to Dr. John Cope, leader of the expedition which is about to leave for Antarctica.
A Sydney message states that the Tennis Association has purchased ' the area previously occupied by the White City at Rushcutter's Bay, and intends to construct forty courts. The association will sell its present grounds at Double B#y.
The King hag approved, the appointment of Bishop Frodsham as Vicar of Halifax. This is the biggest Crown appointment of the kind.
Sir Timothy Coghlan, Agent-General for Victoria, has received twelve applications for the professorship in English literature at ojaney University under the M'Caugfoey bequest; sixty applications for the French chair, seven for that of physiology, and seventy for that' of dentistry. The applicants have been referred to the board's professorial experts. -*
Mrs. Florence Taylor has been admitted as an associate member of the New South Wales Institute of Architects. She is tbe first lady architect in Australia.
A Bill to enable women to qualify for Parliament, has been introduced again :in this Legislative Council of WesT Australia, and has been read the second time.
It is reported from New York that the International Chinese Consortium has received an application from Belgian bankejs for admission, and it is understood that it will be considered favourably.
