APPEAL BY PRESIDENT'OF S.P.C.A.
An urgent appeal foi 1 funds with which to carry on. the humane work of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was made by the president (Mr. F. Meadoweroft) at the society's annual meeting yesterday afternoon. " We want to do greater work," said Mr. Meadowcioft. "We want an additional inspector, so that we may go into the country districts, but our last year's income was not sufficient to meet expenditure. The- society wants to make a foiHvard movement. It has appointed a new collector, whose whole time will be devoted to ah effort we intend making of getting 500 members during the coming year, which will enable us to take a forward step. There are many business houses and private citizens who have never contributed a penny to the cause. There are others whose names appear on our lists as subscribers of 5s when they Could well afford t6 give at least the full subscription of £1 Is. We want the people 61 Wellington and those in the country districts to show their sympathy in this great cause. In, the cause of all dumb animals we ask for help; therefore I commend theclnim of this society to the practical sympathy -of the nublic in Wel-< lington City and country districts." '
